Learning Curve: Putting Healthy School Principles into Practice Tina Adler Abstract (photo above) Clackamas High School, a public high school in Oregon, is considered a model healthy school. With children spending about one-third of their day at school, healthy school facilities could provide students with the most pollution-free part of their day. Today, there is considerable overlap between “green” measures (which emphasize energy efficiency and resource conservation) and the elements that characterize “high-performance” schools (measures that enhance students’ ability to concentrate and perform well academically) ; together, they produce today’s ideal for a healthy school. But at a time when school funding is already tight, school administrators are looking for ways to incorporate healthy school principles affordably.
