Kimberly G. Thigpen received a bachelor of arts in journalism with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989. She received her law degree from the University of North Carolina in 1992 and was admitted to the American Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association that same year. She is a former Justice and Marshall of the UNC Law School chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and member of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.
Ms. Thigpen began work at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences as a student in 1988. She has held positions as an editorial assistant and writer/editor. She became Associate News Editor of Environmental Health Perspectives in 1993 and News Editor in 1995. Her awards include Performance Awards, Special Act or Service Awards, and two NIH Merit Awards. She was inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha Journalism Honor Society and is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists. In addition to numerous articles in EHP, her academic publications include a Best Paper (Children and the Legal System) and honors thesis (Free Press--Fair Trial Guidelines in North Carolina).
