On the Cover | The International Coral Reef Initiative, an international public–private partnership, has named 2008 the International Year of the Reef in an effort to raise awareness of this valuable and fragile resource, including the threats it faces and the ways it can be protected. This month’s Focus article explores one emerging threat against the world’s coral reefs: elevated sea temperatures that lead to bleaching, disease, and death.
